JUDICIAL DIVISIONS BRINGING JUSTICE CLOSER TO THE PEOPLE
Statistics reveal that the bulk of the appeals and applications filed in the Ogun State Customary Court of Appeal comes from outstations, specifically from stations like Abigi, ljebu-Igbo, Atan-ljebu, Odogbolu, Ososa, Ipokia, Ado-Odo, Ota, Igbogila, llaro, Ifo, Agbado and other locations. Hence, litigants and Counsel come from these far places to the Customary Court of Appeal Headquarters, Abeokuta, to argue their appeals and applications at great cost and risk. Section 21 (1) and (2) of the Ogun State.
Customary Court of Appeal Law 2011 empowers the President to divide the Court into Judicial Divisions each of which shall correspond territorially with a Senatorial District. The Hon. President Rtd., Hon. Justice M. A. Ojo has directed the activation of Section 21 (1) and (2) of the Ogun State Customary Court of Appeal Law so as to bring justice closer to the people as a dividend of democracy. The financial implication and other logistics of this innovation have been determined, and are awaiting implementation once funds are released for that purpose. This initiative will give true and effective meaning to the idea of bringing justice closer to the people.
